Oh Valentine’s Day…how I love you and hate you at the same time!
You always come too early…I mean wasn’t it JUST Christmas?? And you come with such pressure to do something spectacular, to profess the love that we feel in such an extraordinary way. You also come with the pressure of getting yet another gift, less than two months after we have emptied our pockets for all of Santa’s little treasures.
Now that that musing is over…
I do secretly love and hate Valentine’s Day. On the one hand I want to do something unique and extraordinary, on the other I want to sit at home in my pj’s and order a heart-shaped pizza. We haven’t made any solid plans this year so the latter will probably be the case.
The one thing I do love about Valentine’s Day is that I get to pick another gift for my amazing hubby! And unlike Christmas, where I have to think of 20 different people and what feels like 100 Christmas lists, on Valentine’s Day I can focus on just one. I enjoy putting thought into my Valentine’s Day gifts and getting something that I know he’ll really like.
Below are some Valentine’s Day gifts I have my eye on. I’d love to hear some more ideas from you guys!!
**Note: These gifts have been approved by the male contributor of The Elegant Earthling, my very own husband and best friend, Rey:-)
Gendarme Eu De Parfum ($120 at Nordstrom):
This is by far my favorite men’s fragrance in its price range! The scent is so unique…crisp, fresh, clean, classic yet so unique. I would love to take credit for discovering this cologne, but Rey discovered it long before I did. What I love almost as much as the scent is the sustainable packaging it comes in. The lightweight metal can is simple, light, and gives the fragrance a longer shelf life, while the lack of a paper box or cardboard protector means a lower carbon footprint (or less natural resources).
Ugg Ascot Leather Slippers ($120 at Zappos):
I am a big fan of giving gifts that I know the other person will love but that they wouldn’t get for themselves. These Ugg slippers fall into that category! Quality, super warm, but maybe not something he would necessarily splurge on for himself.
Whiskey glasses and stones set ($40 on Amazon)
There’s something so masculine about whiskey and something so classy about whiskey stones. Half decorative, half utility, these are the perfect addition to his home bar.
Gentleman Jon Complete Wet Shave kit: ($55 from Amazon)
Give him the gift of smooth skin. Help him turn shaving into a ritual rather than a chore. Something about the metal razor, the brush, the real blades, makes shaving feel so much more elegant and classy than just good ol’ Gillette.
Mixology Bartender Kit ($50 on Amazon):
His home bar can’t be complete without a proper bar tool set. He can mix cocktails with ease and look like a pro while doing it. Heavy duty and high grade, a quality you don’t find in many home bar tool sets.
Shower speaker ($30 on Amazon)
In my experience, guys love gadgets that will make life easier and a little more fun! Give him the gift of a happy morning, and help him wake up in the shower by grooving to his favorite jams. The acoustics will make for a great sing-along session:-)
Grill set ($26 on Amazon)
The weather will be warm before you know it (and, let’s face it, if you live on the West coast, it’s already warm enough!), and nothing says summer like an afternoon barbeque. Give him the tools to do it in style and flip those burgers like the true chef that he is.
Coleman portable grill ($150 on Amazon):
Speaking of grilling, how cool is it to get him a grill that can go with him? We have this exact grill in our patio and it is a champ! Tall enough and big enough to serve as the primary grill in our home, but genius enough to be foldable and packable for those outdoor adventures!
Good man hoodie (on sale for $77 at Nordstrom!!):
The quality of this brand is unsurpassed! This is Rey’s favorite brand for t-shirts and hoodies so it comes highly recommended!. If your man has broad shoulders and a slim waist, this is one of the brands that will fit well with no alterations. I know, it’s a little pricey, but trust me when I tell you that the softness and fit will win you (and him) over once he tries it on!
Jazz Club Cologne ($126 at Nordstrom):
The smell of a Jazz Club in a bottle. That warm, woodsy, scent of leather chairs and intoxicating cocktails…this fragrance is classic and unique at once. Plus, it will go great with that bar tool set or whiskey set if you want to make it a 2-part gift!
Echo Dot ($50 on Amazon):
Back to gadgets and technology, if he doesn’t have an Echo in his house, he will love this gift! A device that will do what he says on command? Sold!
Vintage Stereo ($70 on Amazon):
There is just something so cool about a vintage looking stereo in his home. Functional yet cool and stylish, it will become a conversation piece in his living room.
Leather nail clipper set ($15 on Amazon):
Ok, no guy is ever going to ask for this when you ask “Babe, what would you like for Valentine’s Day?” But as an add-on gift, this is pretty cool. Men love grooming almost as much as we do! They just don’t like to admit it. A set like this will take his grooming to the next level!
Deluxe Bathrobe ($95 at Kiehl’s):
You know the whole “give gifts that they’ll love but won’t necessarily buy for themselves” thing I mentioned earlier? This falls into that category. A soft, cozy bathrobe is the perfect Valentine’s Day gift!
Kiehl’s Men’s Starter Kit ($43 at Kiehl’s):
Again, not a gift he will necessarily ask for, but one that he will love nonetheless! I personally love the scent of —- and Rey loves the fresh, invigorating feeling of the —- products.
Coffee table books:
Last but not least, give a little love to his coffee table with some grooming and style guidebooks. Useful reference books and great conversation pieces!
How to Tie a Tie: A Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Dressed ($11 on Amazon)
MANMADE: The Essential Skincare & Grooming Reference for Every Man ($20 on Amazon)
